A city in Lower Saxony, located along the Weser River, an important artistic and cultural center, Hamelin is known for being the most famous center of the Weser Renaissance art movement, an artistic form that arose in the 16th and 17th centuries that resumed the Italian Renaissance. The historic center of Hamelin contains beautiful examples of this particular artistic style, the houses decorated with gables overlooking the central market square are very beautiful. The town is also famous for the tale of the Pied Piper, which is set in Hamelin. The Hamelin Christmas Market is one of the most charming Christmas markets in Northern Germany.
HAMELIN CHRISTMAS MARKET
1) Hamelin Christmas Market (Hamelner Weihnachtsmarkt). Set in the suggestive scenery of the historic center of Hamelin, the Hamelin Christmas Market is one of the most fascinating markets in northern Germany, the stalls are usually arranged in the market square overlooked by the beautiful Weser Renaissance style houses typical of the city. A part of the market is dedicated to the ancient crafts of the artisans, while other sections exhibit Christmas decorations and lots of toys for children. One of the most beautiful houses in the city becomes a large Advent calendar and all of Hamelin is illuminated with lights and decorated with festoons and Christmas decorations.
