Situated between Arles and Avignon, along the left bank of the Rhone, the town of Tarascon has a beautiful historic center with a medieval castle (Château de Tarascon) and ancient streets among which the rue des Halles stands out with its arcades, among the most interesting, in addition to the castle, the collegiate church of Sainte-Marthe (collégiale Sainte-Marthe) in Romanesque-Gothic style of the XII century. The town was born in ancient times as a Greek colony founded by settlers from nearby Marseille (Massalia), but Tarascon only became important starting from the 6th century. With the annexation of the inhabited center to the county of Provence, Tarascon further increased its military importance thanks to the fact that it was located on the border with the kingdom of France, which was then marked by the Rhone.

TARASCON CHRISTMAS MARKET (Tarascon)
