The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a small European state, part of the European Union, located between Belgium, Germany and France. The country is formed to the north by a hilly area, which reaches the maximum height of the country with the 560 meters of the Kneiff, while the central-southern part of the country is more densely populated and flat. The most important inhabited center is the capital Luxembourg, which is located at a height varying between 230 and 400 meters at the confluence of the Alzette and Pétrusseil rivers. Among the places to visit in this delightful town, we find the neo-Gothic cathedral of Notre Dame, the Palace of the Grand Duke, the ancient fortifications of the city and the Place d’Armes, where the Luxembourg Christmas market takes place. Luxembourg City with its old quarters and fortifications has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994.
