Mariazell is a small Austrian town in the Styria region, located north of Graz and southwest of Vienna, in an idyllic landscape at about 870 meters above sea level. The place is the most important pilgrimage center in Austria, in fact here an image of the Madonna carved in wood has been venerated since the Middle Ages.

The main attraction is the church, Basilika Mariä Geburt, which houses the image object of veneration, revered not only by the Austrians but also by the peoples of Eastern Europe, the church was built in the seventeenth century and has a sumptuous Baroque interior contains the Gnadenkapelle where the venerated image is located. The city is twinned with Loreto.
