A town of medieval origins, it was of great importance in the past for its iron mines, Leoben is today the second largest city in Styria. Leoben is located north of Graz along the Mur River at an altitude of about 540 metres.
Among the prestigious buildings are the theatre, one of the oldest in Austria, the access tower to the city (Mautturm), the old town hall (Altes Rathaus) which overlooks the main square (Hauptplatz) where there are other interesting buildings and some 18th century fountains.

1) Christmas Village on Town Hall Square (Adventstadt Leoben). The Leoben Christmas market is usually made up of pretty, very decorative wooden houses that recreate a small Christmas village.
