Sankt Pölten is the largest city in Lower Austria, it is located along the valley of the river Traisen, a tributary of the Danube, about 60 km west of Vienna.

Founded by the Romans with the name of Aelium Cetium, and was one of the most important cities in the province of Noricum. In the Middle Ages a monastery was founded there and then it developed as a market place.

The most important building of St. Pölten is its baroque cathedral, built in the eighteenth century, the town hall (Rathaus) is also interesting, formed by a set of styles ranging from Gothic to Renaissance to Baroque.

SANKT PÖLTEN CHRISTMAS MARKET

1) Sankt Pölten Christmas Market (St. Pöltner Christkindlmarkt). Traditional Christmas market which usually takes place on the Town Hall Square (Rathausplatz) with handicrafts, exquisite specialties and an extensive program of events. Among the attractions of the market you will find the magical Christmas forest made up of hundreds of illuminated Christmas trees, musical performances, the Advent calendar and the children’s dream farm.
