Wroclaw Christmas Markets

Wroclaw (Breslau in German), is the historical capital of Silesia and is today the fourth largest city in Poland. Important trading town since the Middle Ages, Wroclaw, was part of Germany from the eighteenth century until the end of World War II.

The city has an architecture influenced by the various peoples who have lived or who have controlled it. There are examples of Bohemian style, Austrian style, Prussian style and styles ranging from Gothic to Baroque. Very nice is the oldest part of the town called Ostrow Tumski, surrounded by the waters of the Oder river, here are the Gothic Cathedral of St. John the Baptist (Archikatedra św. Jana Chrzciciela) and the Church of Holy Cross (Kolegiata Świętego Krzyża).

The center of Wroclaw (Breslau) is the Main Market Square (Rynek), surrounded by beautiful buildings and in the center the Old Town Hall (Ratusz) in Gothic and Renaissance style. In the Baroque style are the ancient College and the Jesuit Church. The Centennial Hall – built in the early twentieth century – is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

1) Christmas market in Wroclaw (Breslau) (Jarmark Bożonarodzeniowy Wroclaw). The tradition of the Christmas market in Wroclaw dates back to the sixteenth century. During Christmas the historic center of Wroclaw is illuminated and decorated with thousands of lights, and the Christmas Market fills the historical center and in particular the Rynek and the streets Świdnicka and Oławska with stalls not only from Poland but also from France, Germany, Latvia and Lithuania offering cakes and all kinds of possible gifts, you will find jewelry, ornaments, lamps, leather, woodwork, objects in amber and silver, ceramics, candles. For children is set up the fairy tale forest, where are dramatized and narrated the most beautiful fairy tales.
