Innsbruck (Austria) is the most important city in the Austrian Tyrol, and the state capital of North Tyrol. The city was a fortified frontier outpost at the time of the Roman Empire. Located on important communication routes, especially the access routes to Italy. In the thirteenth century it became a city, becoming more and more important up to touch the height of its power between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, when it became the residence of the Emperor Maximilian I of Habsburg, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.
The historic city center is largely pedestrianized. The Christmas markets in Innsbruck are located along the Maria-Theresien-Strasse – which is the entrance to the medieval city – and throughout the real medieval cities – the so-called Altstadt – among the attractions you will find the fairytale Route and the living Advent Calendar. Other stalls are located in the nearby Marktplatz, near the river Inn, and for good views over the city you can visit the Christmas market which takes place at the Hungerburg, on the hill opposite, across the river Inn, the medieval city. To get there you should use the new cable of Hungerburgbahn facility.
While you’ll get lost among the stalls of the various Christmas markets in Innsbruck you can not fail to taste some of the specialties of the cuisine of Tyrol. Among the delicacies that you can taste you will find the dumplings (Knödel) that can be both sweet and savory, the apple strudel (Apfelstrudel), speck and Tyrolean cheeses like Graukäse and Bergkäse.

The Christmas markets in Innsbruck are numerous, usually every year five Christmas markets are organized (Innsbrucker Christkindlmarkt):
1) Christmas market in the historic center of Innsbruck (Christkindlmarkt in der Innsbrucker Altstadt). In the heart of the old town of Innsbruck in the background of the Golden Roof, it takes place the traditional Christmas market. The flagships are the Fairytale Route and the “Living Advent Calendar”. Stalls selling breads, wooden toys, glasses and vases, Tyrolean handicraft items, candles, woolen caps, Christmas tree decorations.

2) Christmas market in Maria-Theresien-Strasse (Weihnachtsmarkt in der Maria-Theresien-Straße). Also this year, the elegant streets of Innsbruck are illuminated by a sea of lights, glass and crystal. The New stalls, modern lighting and an exciting assortment complement the traditional offering of the Christmas market set up in the heart of the city.

3) Christmas market in Marktplatz (Christkindlmarkt am Marktplatz). This year, as usual, will be set up a Christmas market on the Marktplatz square in Innsbruck, which as usual is a market designed for the whole family. Here there are attractions like the carousel, petting zoo and much more to make children’s eyes sparkle. In addition to Christmas stalls, where to find gift ideas, not lacking all kinds of gastronomic specialties.

4) Panoramic Christmas market in Hungerburg (Panorama Christkindlmarkt Hungerburg). With the new Hungerburgbahn lift reach the “Christmas market panorama of Innsbruck” it will be very simple. Once at the top, not only would you have a wonderful view over the city of Innsbruck and its surroundings, but also an array of culinary delights as well as all sorts of Christmas memories.

5) Christmas market in Wiltener Platzl and in Hans-Brenner-Platz in St. Nikolaus (Wiltener Weihnachtszauber – Christkindlmarkt St. Nikolaus). These two markets are dedicated to arts and crafts and typical products
