Frankfurt (Frankfurt am Main) is one of the most important German cities, German road center and first-class financial center of Europe, full of museums and attractions. The city was founded in the Middle Ages and in the thirteenth century it became a Free Imperial City. Frankfurt from the sixteenth century was the place of election of the emperors of the Holy Roman Empire.

Heavily bombed during the Second World War, the city today has a decidedly modern appearance, but its historic center has been partially reconstructed faithfully. The center of the historic town is the Römerberg square which is overlooked by the old town hall (Römer) and the church of St. Nicholas (Nikolaikirche). Nearby is the cathedral (Kaiserdom), always in the center of the city is also the home of Goethe.
