BULGARIA DOCUMENTS

Travel Documents: To visit Bulgaria to the European citizen must be in possess of a valid identity card or passport. Children must also be in possession of their personal identity card valid for expatriation or passport.

Driving License: National driving license.

Car Insurance: European insurance.

BULGARIA HEALTH INSURANCE, TRAVEL INSURANCE, AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

Health Care: The health situation is not at the level of the best health care in Europe, but in recent years has greatly improved.

For Bulgaria it is advisable to make an additional health insurance before departure.

BULGARIA MOBILE PHONES AND INTERNET

Telephones: Bulgaria Country Dialing Code 00359.

The local and international calls are covered by public telephone boxes with coins and phone cards. Tokens for local calls (0.20 lever) and calling cards are available for purchase at any post office or at retailers of newspapers.

Mobile Telephones: In Bulgaria is widespread the GSM cellular network, signal coverage is good, only a few sparsely populated areas are lack of signal.

Mobile telephone operators: A1, GloBul, Mobikom.

Internet: There are a lot of internet-cafes from which you may talk cheap or send e-mails (most of them work 24 hours).

BULGARIA POWER PLUGS AND ELECTRIC SOCKETS

Electricity: In Bulgaria the usual mains voltage in homes and hotels is 230 volts 50 Hz.

Electrical plugs and sockets: The power plugs and sockets used in Bulgaria are those of type C and F. Both power plugs and sockets are like those used in continental Europe.

BULGARIA CURRENCY AND BANKS

Money and Banks: The Bulgarian Lev is pegged to the Euro. 1 EUR = 1.955 BGN.

You can exchange money at banks or in any of the numerous exchange offices. You can also exchange currency at the airport upon arrival or departure, and in large hotels.

All major cards are accepted (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) as well as Traveler’s Checks.

Banking Hours: Banks are open Monday through Friday, 9.00 am – 4.00 pm and are closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays.

BULGARIA SHOPPING

Shopping Opening hours: Shops are open from Monday – Friday: 9 am – 7 pm. Saturday: 9 am – 1 pm. Mosts shops are closed on Sundays. Some supermarkets are open 24 hours a day. Fresh food products, fruit and vegetables can also be bought from market places open every day in the capital and the country.

Post Offices: Working time of post offices is from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. Postage stamps and postcards may be bought from the desks in the post office or from pavilions selling newspapers.
