The climate of Slovenia: when to go to Slovenia

This post is also available in: Deutsch Русский Français

Slovenia has a continental climate which, however, due to its proximity to the sea, is made milder by the marine influence, this influence is stronger in the vicinity of the Istrian coast and less strong in the hinterland. In mountainous areas the climate is typical of the Alps, cold and snowy in winter with intense summer rains.

In the coastal area (Koper), the climate is Mediterranean, with mild and dry summers with average temperatures of almost 30 ° C, while the winters are characterized by the Bora, a cold wind that blows from the north-east, in winter, in addition to the wind, heavy rains are also common.

Inland the continental climate takes hold, summers are hot but often subject to significant downpours and winters are long, cold and with abundant snowfall. From November to February, temperature readings below freezing are common. The average temperatures in July reached 21°C, while in January is 0°C.

Typically, the rains are abundant species on the mountains, reaching 1,200 to 1,400 mm annually. Rainfall in the capital averages 1360 mm a year. The Julian Alps and the Dinaric-Alpine barrier receive the greatest amount; the second maximum is in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.
