NEW CALEDONIA: DOCUMENTS
All visitors to New Caledonia must be in possession of a passport valid for at least 6 months following the scheduled return date. The visa, for citizens of the European Union, is not necessary if you are staying for less than 3 months. For citizens of some countries outside the European Union a visa can be requested.
NEW CALEDONIA: DRIVE A CAR
To drive in New Caledonia all you need is a national driving license. Driving is on the right. The use of seat belts, a child seat and a helmet for motorcyclists are mandatory. The speed limits are 110 km / h on suburban roads and 50 km / h on urban roads, unless otherwise indicated.
NEW CALEDONIA: MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
New Caledonia has a good health care service, there are clinics in every area of the country, but obviously the most important hospitals are in Noumea, here there are both public and private hospitals. It is highly recommended for the tourist to take out medical insurance that covers all health costs and also allows the repatriation of the patient in urgent cases.

The telephone area code to call New Caledonia is 00687. Emergency numbers: 17 Police; 15 Medical Aid; 18 Fire Brigade. Public telephone booths are located both in Noumea and in the villages of the interior of the Grande Terre and in the other islands.
The mobile telephone network in New Caledonia is served by OPT New Caledonia (Mobilis) which operates on a GSM mobile network system (900MHz).
NEW CALEDONIA: POWER PLUGS AND ELECTRIC SOCKETS
The voltage in New Caledonia is 220 volts 50 Hz, the same that is used in Europe. The power plugs and sockets used in New Caledonia are those with two round plugs (C and E), that is, similar to those used in France.
NEW CALEDONIA: CURRENCY AND BANK
Franc CFP (XPF). The CFP Franc has a fixed exchange rate with the Euro: 1 Euro = 119.33 CFP Francs.
New Caledonia banks are open Monday to Friday from 7.30 to 15.30. Credit Cards are generally accepted in the main hotels, shops and restaurants. If you plan to stay in small guest houses and tourist facilities, it is better to have cash.
