ROMANS REMAINS

The Roman occupation, which took place between the second and third century AD, and from which the country takes its name, has left indelible traces in the neo-Latin language of the Romanian population and can be observed by visiting some important archaeological areas. Including those of Alba Julia, Arad, Cluj-Napoca, Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa, Craiova, Drobeta Turnu Severin and Sibiu.

The ancient capital of Dacia, Sarmizegetusa Regia, located in the Orastie Mountains in the Southern Carpathian massif in the southwestern part of Transylvania is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, together with the dacian fortresses that defended it.

The natural beauty of the country made of mountains, lakes and rivers are the backdrop for fortresses, churches and fairytale castles. Transylvania, the region of the famous Count Dracula, is probably the most beautiful area in Romania. There are vast forests and high mountains, ancient fortified churches, medieval castles, monasteries, historic wooden villages where time seems to stand still. Near Braşov there is the castle (Castelul Bran) of the famous Count Dracula, one of the most visited attractions in Romania.

The mountains of the country also have several winter ski centers such as those in the Prahova valley, south of Braşov, where the centers of Predeal and Busteni are located. The Danube Delta also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site is now a protected area where marsh and water birds can be observed.

ART CITIES

The Romanian cities of art are little known but represent a significant potential for the tourist development of the country.
