The climate of Latvia is a temperate mixed between the maritime and continental, coastal areas have a warmer climate, while the influence of the sea is considerably attenuated in the inner regions. In general, the climate of the country is quite rigid and precipitation are rather scarce.
The very northern latitude of the country, and therefore its different position relative to the Sun causes a change in the hours of daylight in Latvia, from 6-7 hours in December to 17-18 hours in June. The northern latitude of Latvia makes the winters long and dark, with average temperatures along the coast are below freezing from December/January to February/March, the Baltic Sea in winter is completely frozen.
In the summer the weather is cool but rainy. The rains fall mainly between June and October, while the winter months are quite dry. Average annual rainfall in the country are around 500-800 mm. The snow is on the ground for about three months a year, from mid-December to mid-March.
The hottest months of the year in Latvia are those of July and August with an average temperature ranges that vary between 21°C and 13°C, the coldest month is January with average temperatures ranging between the minimum of -6°C and the maximum of -2°C.

The best time for a trip to Latvia are the months between May and September, characterized by warmer temperatures, although more rainy.
