Paris: a city with a unique wealth of monuments

Paris is the capital of France and the capital of the Île-de-France region. The city is crossed by the Seine, and represents the main tourist attraction of France. The city has over two million inhabitants, but its metropolitan area exceeds eleven million inhabitants.

The whole city has a great wealth of places for tourists to visit. Paris is best known for its museums and architectural monuments. Among the many tourist attractions in Paris, the famous Eiffel Tower, the symbol par excellence of Paris, can be mentioned. Then the Louvre Museum, one of the most important and richest museums in the world. Another symbol of the French capital is the Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral on the Ile de la Cité. UNESCO has included the banks of the Seine that cross Paris (1991) and the Palace and Park of Versailles (1979) in the list of world heritage sites.

A SERIES OF MUSEUMS UNIQUE IN THE WORLD

Among the museums besides the aforementioned Louvre Museum, the Orsay Museum, which houses the works of the Impressionists. The Musée Rodin instead has a large collection of works by the best known French sculptor. The Museum de l’Orangerie, an impressionist and post-impressionist painting museum. The Musée Marmottan Monet, museum of French impressionism and 19th century art. The Picasso Museum, which houses almost 3,000 works by Pablo Picasso. The Center Georges Pompidou or Beaubourg, which houses the National Museum of Modern Art.

To remember the places of the French Revolution, visit the Place de la Bastille, where the Bastille prison stood until the French Revolution. The Place de la Concorde, with the obelisk of the Luxor Temple in Egypt, located in the place where the guillotine was erected.

Other iconic places in the French capital are the Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe, the Hôtel des Invalides with the adjoining museum and the mausoleum which houses the tomb of Napoleon I. The Sacre Coeur Basilica of Montmartre and the Sainte-Chapelle , 13th century Gothic chapel. The Montparnasse district, an area famous for the studios and meeting places of the artists of the 1900s, and the new district of La Défense, the modern district of Paris.

On the outskirts of the city is the famous Disneyland Paris amusement park, located on the eastern outskirts of Marne-la-Vallée. Absolutely not to be missed is a visit to the spectacular Palace of Versailles, the royal palace of Louis XIV and subsequent rulers, is the major tourist attraction in France.
