Getting around in Vienna: subway and urban transport

The best way to move around the city and admire the beauties of Vienna are public transport such as the underground (Vienna U-Bahn), the tram, the bus and the metropolitan train (S-Bahn).

Getting around in Vienna is simple, the city offers an excellent public transport network. The Viennese one is in fact one of the best integrated transport networks in Europe, highly efficient and of great extension. To move around Vienna you can choose between the U-Bahn (underground), the S-Bahn (surface underground), the tram and the bus network.

SUBWAY

U-Bahn: The Vienna underground network (U-Bahn) consists of 5 lines (U1, U2, U3, U4, U6), and extends over 74 km, for a total of 90 stations. The time interval between two trains is two to five minutes during the day and eight to ten minutes after 8 pm. The operating hours are from 5.00 to 1.00.

SURFACE UNDERGROUND

S-Bahn: The S-Bahn is the surface underground, operated by the Austrian railways, it guarantees the transport of commuters in the center by connecting the Heuriger areas, the areas north-west of Vienna and Wienerwald to the south. The service hours are from 4.30-5.00 to 21.00-24.00.

TRAM AND BUS

Tram: The tram (Straßenbahn) is the most used means, thanks to its dense network of connections in the city. The service hours are from 5.00-5.30 to 23.00-24.00.

Bus: The bus network is also highly developed. Night-time buses run at 30-minute intervals from midnight until the start of daytime services.

Vienna Card: Special card that allows you to use the subway, tram and bus for 72 hours in a row, as well as taking advantage of discounts and discounts for four days in museums, tourist attractions, shops, theaters, concerts, cafes, restaurants and Heuriger.
