Western Australia has many types of climate, in the south-west, the climate is temperate, with winter rainfall (June-August) and four distinct seasons, to the north the climate is tropical with a wet season and a dry season (April to November) while in the rest of the land is arid or semi-arid. Away from the coast the rain decrease and the differences of the temperatures between day and night increase.
A TROPICAL CLIMATE
In the areas along the northern coast of Western Australia, during the dry period, ie during the months from April to September, you have good weather with clear and sunny skies, during this period, temperatures range between 24°C in the night and 34°C during the day. During the rainy season, between October and March, average temperatures are around 30°C and the humidity is very high.
In the famous seaside town of Broome, the wettest months are between January and March, where the average annual rainfall is around 600 mm. The influence of the ocean means that the temperatures along the coast suffer less marked variations between day and night, compared to what happens in the interior of Western Australia.
A DRY AND ARID CLIMATE
The driest area of Western Australia is the center which has an arid and semi-arid climate, in this area the rains fall mostly in the months between January and March, the average annual rainfall is between 150 mm and 300 mm. The average maximum temperatures in Meekatharra, vary between 38°C in January and 19°C in July, while the average minimum temperatures vary between 24°C in January and 7°C in July.
A MILD MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE
In the coastal area of the south-west, the climate is mild, typically Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild and rainy winters. The average maximum temperature is 25°C in January and 16°C in July, the average minimum is 14°C in February and 7°C in July. In Albany, for example, the wettest months are between May and September, the average annual rainfall is 800 mm.
In the area of Perth the average maximum temperatures ranging between 18°C in July and 32°C in February, while the minimum temperatures vary between 8°C in August and 17°C in February. The average annual rainfall is 800 mm, most of which falls in the months between May and August, with maximum intensity in June and July.
WHEN TO GO TO WESTERN AUSTRALIA
The best time to visit the area south of the Tropic of Capricorn (Perth, Albany) are the summer months between November and March, when temperatures are high and rainfall is low. The area north of the Tropic of Capricorn instead it is best to visit in the months between May and October, ie during the dry season, when the temperatures are milder.
