Burma (Pyi-daung-zu Myan-ma Naing-ngan-daw, Union of Myanmar), is a state located in South-East Asia, bounded on the east by China, Laos and Thailand, to the south is washed by the Andaman Sea, and to the west from the Bay of Bengal, always to the west it borders with Bangladesh and India, to the north again with China and India. The most important city in the country is Rangoon (Yangon), while the administrative capital is, from November 2005, Naypyidaw.

The territory of Burma is formed in part from the mountainous areas, arranged in the direction north-south, to the north are the foothills of the Himalayas and have high and rugged peaks culminating with the massive Hkakabo Razi (5,881 m), the highest peak in South-East Asia.

To the west, the chains are lower, here are the Arakan Mountains, which mark the border with India and Bangladesh, and that exceed the 3,000 meters with the highest peak in the chain, Mount Victoria (3,053 metres) to the east lies the Shan plateau, 900 meters high on average, arid to the north, rich in tropical forests to the south, where there are the mountains of Tenasserim (Bilauktaung mountains).

AN AGRICULTURAL COUNTRY RICH IN FORESTS

The coasts have an area of ​​1,930 km, only at the Irrawaddy delta are low and sandy, while for the most part, the Arakan coast (north-west) and those of Tenasserim (south-east), are high and rocky and dotted with islands, to the south lie the islands of the Mergui Archipelago.

The country’s richest agricultural area consists of fertile valleys of the Irrawaddy and Salween, intensively cultivated with rice, Burma is a major producer of rice in the world, but the country also produces cotton, peanuts, sugar cane, cereals, vegetables and tobacco. Forest covers about half of the Burmese territory and are a rich source of timber especially teak, of which Burma has the largest reserves in the world, rubber and bamboo.

Very important are the resources of the subsoil, in Burma are extract oil and natural gas, but also lead, zinc, tin, tungsten, coal, copper, nickel, jade and rubies. Noteworthy are the attractions in the country (beaches, ancient cities, indigenous culture intact).
